I have been working on the animated feature film called: "Egill" that is still in production. As a member of the Texture and Matte Painting Team we had to draw all textures for each backgrounds (20), figures (80 main characters, 300 secondary characters) and objects thus providing a "hand painted" style for the movie.
The poet and viking warrior was a historic figure who lived in Iceland in the Tenth century, an era when paganism soon would be gone forever giving way to the rising new religion. Our film has a unique visual style. 3D serves as a skeleton that the graphical elements are built around. The final visual characteristics are defined by hand drawn graphics and hand painted surfaces up to the smallest details. Unlike in most 3D animation we intentionally kept the natural fresh look of pencil drawings picturing the fine changes of the shadows and light on the landscape, the fog, rain and other elements of nature. The visual world of the film operates with clear compositions which describes best the beauty and the raw power of pristine nature.
